MFA Enablement for Microsoft 365: Stop Account Takeovers in One Project

The problem

Most account takeovers start with a password that was stolen, guessed or reused from another breach. Once an attacker is inside a mailbox, they read invoices, impersonate your staff and send fake payment instructions to your clients. Microsoft reports that MFA blocks the overwhelming majority of automated account attacks, yet many businesses still have gaps: admin accounts without it, legacy protocols that bypass it, or users who were never enrolled.

The solution

We roll out MFA to every user the right way. Admins first, then a pilot group, then everyone, with clear instructions so your help desk phone does not ring all week. We block the legacy sign-in methods attackers use to sneak around MFA, and we enable phishing-resistant options like passkeys for your most sensitive accounts.

What is included

  • Review of current sign-in methods and Security Defaults
  • Conditional Access policies requiring MFA for all users
  • Stronger rules for admin accounts, including phishing-resistant methods
  • Legacy authentication blocked tenant-wide
  • Break-glass emergency accounts configured and documented
  • Microsoft Authenticator rollout with number matching
  • User enrollment guide and email templates
  • Post-rollout report showing 100% enrollment

Pair it with

Security Awareness Training at $3 per user per month, so staff can spot the phishing emails that try to trick them into approving a sign-in.

Endpoint Security Baseline so only compliant devices can sign in.

Rollout in four steps

  1. Review. We check licenses, existing policies and service accounts that could break.
  2. Protect admins. Admin accounts move to phishing-resistant MFA first.
  3. Pilot. A small group enrolls and confirms everything works.
  4. Enforce. Everyone enrolls, legacy sign-in is blocked, and we confirm full coverage.

Frequently asked questions

Will MFA annoy my staff?

We configure trusted, compliant devices so people are not prompted constantly. Most users see a prompt on new devices or unusual sign-ins only.

What if someone loses their phone?

We document a simple recovery process and set up backup methods, so a lost phone is a five-minute fix, not a lockout.

How long does it take?

Most organizations are fully enrolled within one to two weeks.

This project is right for you if

MFA is "mostly" on

Some users enrolled, some not, and nobody has checked the admin accounts or shared mailboxes.

You rely on Security Defaults

A good start, but it can’t target admins, block legacy sign-in selectively or trust compliant devices.

Renewal is coming

Almost every cyber insurance application now asks whether MFA is enforced for all users.

The cost of waiting: one stolen password on an account without MFA is all an attacker needs to read your email, impersonate your team and redirect client payments.
